Ishpeming- Elaine Mae Elizabeth Kilpela, 81,passed away on March 7, 2015 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility, where she had resided for the past 6 years.

She was born in Trimountain on February 11, 1934, to Wilfred and Tyyne (Leinonen) Kilpela. Elaine was the youngest of 5 children, 3 brothers, Robert,George, and Milton Kilpela, and one sister, Mildred Maki, who all preceded her in death.

She attended Jeffers High School then moved to Detroit and worked there for several years before returning to the Copper Country to attend Suomi College, and MTU. After College she left to follow her dream of living and working
in New York City in the Fashion and clothing industry in downtown Manhattan for 8 years before returning once again to the Copper Country.

Elaine was known for her pleasant nature, for keeping an open mind, always dressing well, and for her wonderful sense of humor which she kept till the very end. She loved her family dearly, and had many friends. She will be missed!

Surviving are: Her son, Don (Tella) Kilpela, of Seinäjoki Finland, 2 granddaughters , Anja and Saara
Kilpela of Marquette, and numerous nieces, nephews, and a few cousins.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Marquette County Medical Care Facility and Dr. Hooper for their years of excellent, loving care.

A small memorial service will be held at an undetermined time in the coming months. Family and close friends will be notified.
