Ishpeming – Elaine Grace Carlson, age 96, of 713 Bank St., Ishpeming passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 after a short stay at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming.

Elaine was born September 24, 1917 the daughter of the late Herman & Hilda (Haltanen) Maki in Ishpeming. Elaine married John "Cowboy" Carlson and he preceded her in death in 1995. She took Adult Education and graduated in 1972. She devoted her time as a housewife and raised five children.

Elaine was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Salvation Army. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, baking, horseshoes, & listening to Gospel music. She was a kind person with a great sense of humor.

Elaine is survived by her four sons: Peter (Cathy) Carlson, Norman (Joan Schultz) Carlson, John "Yogi" (Sandra) Carlson, and Ross (Barb) Carlson all of Ishpeming, 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Elaine was preceded in death by her husband John "Cowboy" Carlson, one daughter, Anne Marie (Carlson) LaCosse, 3 brothers: William, Herman and Martin Maki, 7 sisters: Aina Heino, Helga Schmeltz, Minnie St. Onge, Alice Jordan, Helen Michele Jenny Maki, & Esther Argall.

Elaine's family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, August 16, 2014 from 10:00am until 12:00 noon at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home where funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday with Rev. Kenneth Lahners officiating. Interment will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens.

A luncheon will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church following the service.
