Obituary

Ishpeming - Eino E. Maki, age 85, of Ishpeming, Michigan, died peacefully at his home surrounded by loving family and Lake Superior Hospice, on June 25, 2010.

Eino was born in Gay, Michigan, on January 18, 1925, to the late Emil and Hilda (Asuinmaa) Maki. He moved to Ishpeming in 1940 and was a graduate of Ishpeming High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. He worked for Cleveland-Cliffs Iron Company and retired in 1986, after 44 years of service. During his lifetime, he enjoyed baseball, participating in the early-bird swim at Ishpeming High School, puttering around the house and tinkering with his car, along with a sauna at his uncle's house every Saturday afternoon.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Concetta; three daughters Kathleen (Michael) Manga, of Taylor, Michigan; Joanne (Roger) Bergman of Ishpeming; and Mary (Dennis) Yelle of Ishpeming; four granddaughters, Chelsee (Josh) Bal, Jenna Bergman, Ashley Mogush and Caitlin Manga; one great grandson, Easton Bal; his brother, Carlo Maki of Marquette; his sister, Lillian (Wilhart) Aho of Ishpeming; brother-in-law, Wilho Ritola of Republic; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Violet Ritola.

Funeral services will be held at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at 6:30 p.m., with the Rev. Lauri O. Maki officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4:30 p.m. until the time of the service. Inurnment will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens.
