Ishpeming Twp. – Edward H. "Skippy" Quayle, age 79, of 200 Stoneville Rd. passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at his home in Ishpeming Twp.


Skippy was born in Ann Arbor, MI the son of the late John & Natalie (Clague) Quayle. He moved to the Ishpeming area as a child and grew up in Salisbury Location. Edward served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his service time, Skippy returned to Ishpeming and married the late Jean Tyynismaa. He had worked at the Tracy Mine, then as an Iron Worker prior to becoming employed by Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co. While with Cliffs he worked as a welder out of the Brownstone Shops in Ishpeming for 21 years until his retirement in 1994.


Skippy was a lifetime member of the Republic V.F.W., and a member of the Moose Country Snowmobile Club and the Tri-City Chippers Carving Club. Skippy enjoyed socializing with friends and neighbors, and was well known for his potato sausage and homemade wines. He always treasured the times he spent with his grandchildren. Wednesday evening was set aside for "Perky's Men's Club." His other hobbies included hunting, fishing, trapping and most recently operating his dozer.


Survivors include 2 sons – Dave (Mary Ann) Quayle of DePere, WI and Greg (Linda) Quayle of Champion, a sister Grace (Les) Hietala of Palmer, a brother Jack (carol) Quayle of Brooksville, FL, 2 grandchildren – Zach (Jenni) Quayle of Champion and Lindy Quayle of Marquette, 4 step-grandchildren – Craig, Pam, Mark and Brian, 5 step-great grandchildren – Alex, Amber, Molly, Elwood and Agatha, along with several nieces and nephews, and his special friend Dianne Sirtola. He was preceded in death by his wife Jean in 2005, a son Kurt in 1972, 2 sisters – Betty Petersen and Katie Racine.


A memorial service will be held at 6:00pm on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming with the Rev. Lauri O. Maki to officiate. The Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter #380 will perform Military Honors at the conclusion of the services. Inurnment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 3 – 6pm on Tuesday at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming. A luncheon will follow the services in the church hall.


Honorary pallbearers will be Andy DellAngelo, Ralph Watters, Peter Suardini, Perky Nault, Jerry Corlett Neil Anderson and Louie Mitchell.
