Obituary

Marquette / Ishpeming- Edward S. Johnson, age 83 of 1530 W. Ridge St. #17 Marquette and longtime Ishpeming resident passed away Monday May 2, 2016 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans while in the loving care of his family and UP Home Health & Hospice.

Edward was born March 17, 1933 in Ishpeming to Spencer & Marjorie (Pascoe) Johnson. He graduated from Ishpeming High School, class of 1951. Ed served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 31 years, retiring as a rural mail carrier in 1988 from the Ishpeming Post Office.

Ed was a lifelong member of the Bethel Lutheran Church where he was involved with the Men's Group and was a former bell choir director and council member. Ed was a member of the Ishpeming ELKS Lodge and the VASA Lodge. He played in numerous instrumental bands including the Negaunee City Band, the Westerly Winds Big Band, and Phantom Brass among others.

Ed is survived by his wife Barbara (Graham) Johnson, whom he married on November 26, 1955, 3 children: David (Julie) Johnson of Sparta, MI, Sue (Ed) Anderson of Ishpeming and Julie Williamson of Milwaukee, WI, 3 grandchildren: Brian (Danielle) Anderson, Rachel (Stephen) Robinson and Brittany (Ryan) Hanna, 3 great grandchildren: Nora Jo Anderson, Barrett Anderson and Elliot Robinson, sister in law Gail Graham and niece Lori (Glenn) Selmser. Ed was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Barbara Rice.

A memorial service for Ed will be celebrated at 12:00 noon on Thursday May 5, 2016 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming with Rev. Lauri O. Maki officiating. Inurnment will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery.

Ed's family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday at the Bethel Lutheran Church from 10:00am until the time of service at 12:00 noon.

A luncheon will be held in the church fellowship hall following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Bethel Lutheran Church (Parking Lot Fund) 333 E. Ridge St. Ishpeming, MI 49849 or UP Home Health & Hospice 510 Mather Ave. Ishpeming, MI 49849 in memory of Ed Johnson.
