Ishpeming – Edna L. Swanson, age 95, of 748 Park St., Ishpeming passed away on Sunday, June 20, 2010 at the Bell Hospital in Ishpeming. Edna had resided at the Mather Nursing Center since this past October.
Edna was born January 20, 1915 in Ishpeming the daughter of the late James and Laura (Mulgren) Kemp. She was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1932. Edna was a lifelong Ishpeming resident other than a few years spent in Nevada in the mid-1940's, while her husband was in the armed services. Edna was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, baking and crocheting. She could often be found reading a good book, or in the company of her friends during card club. Edna was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, where she expertly chipped potatoes for the pasty making crew for many years. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Negaunee Chapter #100.
Survivors include a son Kim (Jude) Swanson of Columbus, OH, a daughter Sheryl (Bill) Schrandt of Ishpeming, a granddaughter Tammy (Jason) DeRuyver of Ypsilanti, and great grandson William C. DeRuyver, sisters-in-law – Lillian Kemp of Ishpeming and Evelyn Kemp of Marquette, a special cousin Norman Ostermeyer along with many other cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence "Tammy" Swanson, and two brothers – Robert and Donald Kemp.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 3 until 5 pm on Thursday June 24, 2010 at the Wesley United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at 5:00pm on Thursday at the Wesley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Scott Lindenberg to officiate. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Norman & Gary Ostermeyer, Warren & Lowell Larson.
