Ishpeming, MI - Edith E. Sandberg, age 91, of 230 Prospect St., in West Ishpeming, passed away on Monday May 16, 2022, at her home while in the loving care of her family.

Edith was born in Ishpeming, on April 11, 1931, a daughter of the late Martha E. (Santaholma) and Nestor S. Korpi and was a lifelong Ishpeming area resident.  In her younger years Edith worked at the JJ Newberry Store in Ishpeming as the fountain manager.  She married the late Edward Sandberg on Sept. 5, 1953 and was a proud homemaker who enjoyed providing for her family.

Edith had enjoyed bowling, trips to the local casinos, providing daycare for her grandchildren, and was proud of each of their accomplishments. She loved playing games, especially "winning" at Yahtzee or for that matter, whatever game that was being contested. She tended to her gardens in the summer months and kept her mind sharp by doing crossword puzzles daily. Edith was a member of the woman's auxiliary at the Riverside Club.

Survivors include  two sons Edward A. (Anita) Sandberg of Ishpeming; John M. (Tammy) Sandberg of Champion; a daughter Janice (Steven) Fredrickson of Ishpeming; a sister Donna (Marvin) Korb of Fond du Lac, WI; a brother Ronald (Naoma) Korpi, of Ishpeming; 6 grandchildren – Zachary Sandberg, Lindsey Sandberg, Cassy Sandberg, Ashley (James) Bourgeois, Abby Fredrickson and Brett Fredrickson; 3 great grandchildren - Jolie Sandberg, Clare Bourgeois, Natalie Bourgeois, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward W. Sandberg in 2013, an infant granddaughter Tammy Sandberg, brothers and sisters - John Korpi, Ethel Aho, Irvin Korpi, Jeanette Dunstan and Dennis Korpi.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM on Sunday, May 22, 2022, at the Christ the King Lutheran Church in Ishpeming Twp., where a Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM with Rev. DJ Thomsen officiating. Interment will take place at the Negaunee Cemetery.
