Champion – Earl S. Paquette, age 87, longtime resident of 755 Co. Rd FD in Champion passed away at 7:30pm on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans where he had resided since March 2, 2012.
Earl was born March 24, 1925 in Michigamme, MI the son of the late Clarence and Gladys (Sharon) Paquette. Earl moved to Champion in his childhood and was a graduate of the Champion High School, Class of 1942. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the European African Middle Eastern Theater, where he was involved in battles and campaigns at Normandy, Northern France and Central Europe. While in the service Earl served as a Chaplain of his Company. Earl returned to this area and was employed for many years as a Section Foreman for the Soo Line Railroad, retiring on Feb. 14th 1986.
Earl was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in champion where he sang in the funeral choir. For the past 12 years Earl enjoyed daily coffee and camaraderie at the Champion Fire Dept. He also enjoyed walking, reading and watching TV.
Survivors include two daughters – Kristin (Charles) Shong of Saranac, MI, and Sandra (Jack) Kayser of Lakewood, Co, a son Ken (Denise Kean) Paquette of Rockledge, FL, two sisters – Anedda Mager of Champion and Donna (Dave) Paris of Neshkoro, WI along with several nieces and nephews. Earl was preceded in death by his wife Carol (Clouthier) Paquette on Jan. 24, 2000 and 2 brothers Peter and Clayton Paquette.
The family will greet relatives and friends on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 from 10am – 11am at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Champion, where the Vietnam Veterans of America will hold a Military Honors service at 10:45am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Tuesday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Greg Heikkala to officiate. Interment will take place at the Champion Cemetery.
