Dorothy Carlyon

January 25, 1921 – November 6, 2020
Ishpeming- Dorothy Carlyon Windsand, age 99, longtime Ishpeming resident, passed away peacefully on Friday November 6, 2020 at the DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans while in the loving care of nursing home staff.
Dorothy was born in Ishpeming on January 25, 1921, daughter of the late Richard and Elizabeth Carlyon. She attended Ishpeming High School graduating with the class of 1939. Following graduation she worked at the Gossard Building doing office work before going on to work at the Ishpeming Green House. She married her husband Raymond "Ace" Windsand on July 30 of 1949.
Dorothy was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, and the Eastern Star. She enjoyed bowling, swimming, diving, skiing, baking desserts, following sports especially the Green Bay Packers and Hematite basketball games. Dorothy enjoyed doing crafts, she was a chaperone with the Blue Notes, traveled with her camper, was a girl scout leader. Dorothy enjoyed spending summers visiting her aunt Lilly and Uncle Albert Healey in Spread Eagle, WI where she made many lifelong memories with her twin sister Doris. She was very involved with and loved spending time with her family.
Dorothy is survived by her 3 children- Jim "Debbie" Windsand of Haslett, MI, Mary Windsand of Marquette, Doris Windsand of Oak Ridge, TN, 3 grandchildren- Jennifer (Gerard) Ascani of Okemos, MI, Jason Windsand of Lansing, MI, Kenneth (Brittney) Windsand of Charlotte, NC, 2 great grandchildren- Eli and Luna Ascani along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Raymond "Ace" Windsand in 2016, brothers- Richard, Robert and Clifford James Carlyon, sister- Mary Trebilcock, and twin sister Doris Carlyon who passed in 1939.
A graveside committal service for Dorothy and Raymond Windsand will be held at 12:00PM on Saturday August 21, 2021 at the Ishpeming Cemetery, and following the service family and friends are invited to the pavilion at Al Quall to share memories.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans Activity Fund or Wesley United Methodist Church.
Dorothy's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Jacobetti for the love and exceptional care they gave to Dorothy.
