Obituary

Ishpeming – Dorothy J. Salo, age 74, longtime resident of 17 Dove Lane, Ishpeming. Passed away on Saturday May 27, 2017 at the Mill Creek Senior Living Community where she had resided for the past 2 years. Dorothy was in loving care of her family at the time of her death.

Dorothy was born September 20, 1942 in North Chicago, IL the daughter of the late Peter and Stella (Gawlik) Ptasienski. She grew up in North Chicago and was a graduate of the Holy Rosary High School in North Chicago. Dorothy married Ishpeming native John W. Salo, whom she met while he was working in Waukegan, IL and they moved back to Ishpeming in 1973. Dorothy served as the homemaker to her family while they were growing up in the Green Creek Location. After her children were raised she worked for several years as a sales clerk at Maki's Mini Mart in Republic.

Dorothy was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ishpeming. Her family always came first and she cherished time spent with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed her weekly coffee clutch with her lady friends, spending time at camp on Helen Lake, puttering around in her garden and passing time by doing word search puzzles.

Survivors include 4 children – Laurie (Brian) Maki of Marquette; John (Maryl) Salo of New Port, RI; Rick (Debbie) Salo of Ishpeming; and Connie (Randy) Perreault of Ishpeming, 11 grandchildren – Lindsey and Alyssa Kellow of Marquette; John Salo of Winona, MN; Ben Salo of Caledonia, MN; Derrin Salo of Tomah, WI; Amanda and Amber Salo of Ishpeming; Ryan, Nathan, Cole and Casey Perreault of Ishpeming, 4 great grandchildren – Xavier, Cain, Rylan and Henrik; 5 brothers – Joseph (Joyce) Ptasienski, Daniel (Liz) Ptasienski, Eugene (Blanche) Ptasienski, "Stas" (Sharon) Ptasienski and Edward Ptasienski, 5 sisters – Betty (Doug) Lewis, Annie Massimo, Cecile Stankewicz, Sally (John) Melch and Lorraine Bader; brothers-in-law – Kenneth (Mary Beth) Salo, Gary (Jane) Salo,; sisters-in-law – Norine Maki and Kathy Ptasienski, along with many nieces, nephews, special friend Kathy Talbacka and her canine companion Bear.

She was preceded in death by her husband John W. Salo on Oct. 5, 2010, a grandson Nikolas Kellow, brothers – Peter Ptasienski Jr., and Jules Ptasienski, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law – Dino Massimo, Jerry Stankewicz, Clyde & Sue Certo, Larry Maki, Joan Ptasienski and Marion Salo and a special friend Penny Carlson.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 9:30am – 11:00am on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at the St. Joseph catholic Church in Ishpeming. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Dan Moll to officiate. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dorothy's grandchildren.
