ISHPEMING - Dorothy Virginia Gelmi Born on February 9, 1922, in Ishpeming, Michigan, Dorothy Virginia Nault, entered into rest on January 18, 2011, 3 weeks before her 89th birthday.
Remembered as a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, our family mourns the passing of a matriarch. Dorothy, known as "Dort", is survived by her children Geraldine (Robert) Thomsen, Darlene (Paul) Kurian, Florian (Gail) Gelmi, Sherry (Thomas) Salmon, 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, sister Lois Bosio and sister-in-law Nancy Nault. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 41 years, Emelio Paul Gelmi, brothers Albert and Donald Nault, sister Margarite DeMille and long time companion Wilbur Moody.
Dorothy was a graduate of Ishpeming High School and a longtime member of St. Pius X, Alter Society. She raised a loving family while obtaining her nursing degree where she worked and later retired from Ishpeming Bell Memorial Hospital. In 1979, she and her husband, moved to Apache Junction Arizona where they lived happily until his death in 1983.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 10 until 11am on Monday, June 27, 2011 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ishpeming. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11am, Monday, June 27, 2011, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ishpeming with the Rev. Fr. Greg Heikkala to officiate. Inurnment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude's Childrens Hospital or Ronald McDonald House charities.
