Dorothy Pauline Cox

Republic, MI- Dorothy Pauline Cox, 81, of 7944 Willow Dr. Republic, MI, passed away, Saturday, June 25th, at the Lake Superior Hospice unit in Marquette.

Dorothy was born in Crosby, Minnesota on October 9, 1929, a daughter of the late Lydia (Seppanen) and Werner Lahtela. She graduated from Republic High School, class of 1947. She worked as a secretary-bookkeeper at Republic-Michigamme School District.

Dorothy was a member of the Apostolic Lutheran Church of Republic. She enjoyed reading, listing to music, collecting antiques and refinishing antique furniture.

Dorothy is survived by a son, Jeffrey Halonen, of Republic, two brothers, Ardean (Judy) Lahtela, of Humboldt, and Albert (Helen) Lahtela, of Mt. Airy, NC., nieces and nephews: Sara (Ed) Lakanen of Ishpeming, Susan (Kurt) Beyer of Lena, WI, Matt Lahtela of North Carolina, Mark (Barb) Monett of Grand Junction, CO and Clint (Kathy) Monett of Elko, NV, along with numerous grand nieces and grand nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gordon Halonen, a sister Della Monett, a nephew Brent Monett and a niece Kari Lahtela.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM on Wednesday, June 29th, 2011 at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in Republic with Herb Jarvi officiating. Interment will take place in the Republic Twp Cemetery.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in Republic on Wednesday from 12:00 noon until 1:00pm.

Memorials may be directed to the Apostolic Lutheran Church in memory of Dorothy.
