Ishpeming – Dorothy (Tucher) Collins, age 88, formerly of Ohio passed away at her daughters home on Wednesday July 15, 2009 under the loving care of her family and U.P. Home Health and Hospice.

Dorothy was born in New York City on January 31, 1921 to the late Albert and Theresa (Peyrek) Tucher. She was a graduate of Port Richmond High School in Staten Island and received her degree in retail from Long Island University where she met her husband of 63 years, Kenneth Collins. She continued her education at Newark State College working towards a teaching certificate. Dorothy worked as a manager and instructor for H&R Block and was also a retail buyer for a major department store in New York City.

Dorothy and Kenneth spent 35 years in Marietta Ohio before moving to the Upper Peninsula in April 2008. Dorothy enjoyed skiing and was a talented crafter of all sorts and a good reader. She was very creative and even owned her own candle making business and was an active member of the Arts and Crafts League in Marietta. Dorothy served as an interpreter for the Campus Martius Museum in Marietta and on the league of women voters in New Jersey and Ohio.

Dorothy is survived by her husband Kenneth Collins of Negaunee, daughter: Rev. Tina (Rev. James) Robb of Ishpeming a brother: Albert E. (Doris) Tucher of Bridgewater, NJ, 3 Grandsons, 9 Nieces and nephews along with their families. She was preceded in death by a son: Paul David Collins in 1994 and a sister: Lola Ann Gavett.

Memorial services will be held on Sunday July 19, 2009 at the United Presbyterian Church in Ishpeming at 12:30PM with Rev. Dave Mair officiating. A private burial will take place at the Memorial Gardens at First Presbyterian Church in Marquette at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the United Presbyterian Church at 112 E. Euclid St, Ishpeming, in Dorothy's memory.
