Marquette – Doris E. Wisuri, age 84, of 2732 Scenic Dr. #103, Marquette passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at the UP Health System Marquette with family members at her side.

Doris was born August 1, 1930 in Calumet, MI the daughter of the late Arthur and Hilma (Peterson) Marjamaa. She was a graduate of the Calumet High School, Class of 1948. Doris married Melvin Wisuri on June 13, 1953 in Calumet. They lived in Detroit and Livonia, MI for most of their married life. Doris was primarily a homemaker, raising their family of nine children. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and gardening. Making afghans was a specialty of hers, and if you showed her a picture of something, she could make an afghan to look just like the picture. Doris also was known for her ability to take care of clothing alterations for folks at the dry cleaning business owned by her husband. She was a member of the Laestadian Lutheran Church.

For the past 11 years, Melvin and Doris had wintered in Florida and spent the rest of the time in Ishpeming up until this past year when they moved to Marquette. Doris will be remembered as a loving and compassionate wife, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother.

Survivors include her husband of nearly 62 years, Melvin J. Wisuri of Marquette, 8 children – Susan (George) Bekkala of Mountain Iron, MN, Paul (Janet) Wisuri of Ishpeming, Kathleen (James) Shoner of Highland, MI, Janice Batts of Livonia, MI, Thomas (Carina) Wisuri of Taylor, AZ, Michael Wisuri of Canton, MI, Sharon Kearis of Highland, MI and Carl Wisuri of Canton, MI; a sister Jean Kastamo of Kenosha, WI; 24 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews. She was preceded in death by a son Martin Wisuri, granddaughter Michelle Wisuri, great granddaughter Trudy Larson and four brothers – Earl, Robert, John and Paul Marjamaa.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 5 until 8pm on Friday, May 29, 2015 at the Laestadian Lutheran Church in Ishpeming and again on Saturday, May 30, 2015 from 10:00am – 11:00am. Funeral Services will follow a 11:00am on Saturday at the Laestadian Lutheran Church in Ishpeming with Don Lahti to officiate. Interment will take place at the Humboldt Twp. Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons – Joseph, John and Allen Bekkala, Erik and Alex Wisuri and Joshua Kearis.
