Ishpeming – Donna A. Maki, age 89, of 1700 Walnut St., Ishpeming passed away on Friday, December 18, 2015 in the Hospice Unit at UP Health System Marquette. She was under the loving care of her family and the Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice at the time of her death and had spent the prior month at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming.

Donna was born May 25, 1926 in Ishpeming the daughter of Donald and Alice (Schjonberg) Annala. She grew up in National Mine and was valedictorian of the Class of 1944 at the National Mine High School. Donna went on to Ferris State College, where she received her associate degree. Donna had worked at the First National Bank of Negaunee and later at the Miner's First National Bank in Ishpeming.

Donna was a member of the Hope Free Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was active with the Women's Missionary Fellowship. Donna enjoyed reading her bible and daily devotions. She also did the daily jumble and word-search puzzles from the newspaper, along with watching Jeopardy on TV, which kept her mind sharp. Donna thought the world of her only great grandchild Jillian Jade Symons.

Survivors include 2 sons – Robert W. Maki and Vance (Ruth) Maki both of Ishpeming, 2 grandchildren – Melissa (Jeremy) Symons and Marc (Becca Abernathy) Maki, great granddaughter Jillian Symons, step-sister Rosalie Alderton of National Mine and sister-in-law – Helen (Rueben) Koski of Ishpeming. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill in 2006, 2 sons – Donald in 1990 and Alan in 2001, her mother Alice Annala, who passed away when Donna was an infant, along with her father Donald Annala and step-mother Lettie Annala.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00noon on Monday, December 28, 2015 at the Hope Free Lutheran Church in Ishpeming with Erling Langness to officiate. The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00am – 12noon at the church on Monday. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the services in the church hall.
