Ishpeming – Donna R. Christian, age 64 of 512 Maple St. Ishpeming passed away on Monday August 13, 2007 at the Marquette General Hospital. Donna had battled congestive heart failure for the past four years.
Donna was born February 9, 1943 in Menominee, MI the daughter Mildred (Peterson) and the late Frank Ewaldt II. She was a graduate of the Menominee High School, Class of 1961, and of Northern Michigan University, receiving a B.S. in Teaching in 1965. She had resided in many areas, including Detroit where she worked as a social worker, the Copper Country where she had taught at Painesdale. She and her husband Dan then moved to Arizona where she had taught at McClintock High School in Tempe and later at South Mountain High School in Phoenix. They then moved back to Michigan, with Donna staying at home as a homemaker, residing in Westland & Big Rapids prior to moving to Ishpeming for a period of 9 years. Donna then moved to Port Washington, WI where she resided for ten years prior to moving to Minneapolis and back to Ishpeming. Most recently she had been wintering in Apache Junction, AZ for the past 4 years.
Donna was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church of Ishpeming. She loved to travel, with her favorite location being the Grand Canyon. Her world travels had taken her to the United Kingdom, China, Sweden, Norway, and Hawaii. She will be remembered as a very generous individual, always enjoyed craft work, shopping especially for antiques, and spending some quiet time knitting and sewing.
Survivors include her husband of 42 years Dan Christian, two sons – Stephen Christian of Ishpeming and Thomas (Ann) Christian of Shelby Twp, MI; her Mother Mildred Ewaldt of Marinette, WI, a brother Frank Ewaldt of Menominee, 2 sisters – Terri (Mark) Michlig of Green Bay, WI and Jo Couterier of Washburn, WI, a brother-in-law and sister-in-aw – David & Kristen Christian of Ishpeming, along with several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, along with a sister-in-law Virginia Ewaldt and a brother-in-law Dennis Couterier.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday August 17, 2007 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home with the Rev. Lauri O. Maki to officiate. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home from 9:30am until the time of services at 11:00am on Friday. A luncheon will follow the services at the Bethel Lutheran Church Hall.
