Ishpeming, MI - Donald Earl Rice, Jr., age 74, longtime Ishpeming resident, passed away on Friday, August 19, 2022, at his home after a lengthy illness.  He was surrounded by his family and U.P. Home Health and Hospice at the time of his passing.

Donald was born in Ishpeming on September 2, 1947, a son of the late Elaine N. (Johnson) and Donald E. Rice, Sr.  Don was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1966. Don served in the U.S. Army as a field medic during the Vietnam War. He worked for the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co. for 35 years, retiring as a Yard Crew Supervisor at the Tilden Mine in 2002.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years - Skipper (Walsh) Rice of Ishpeming; son Craig S. (Bobbi) Rice of Ishpeming; daughter Brenda (Jeremie) Mackie of Rapid City, SD; 2 brothers, 2 sisters, 5 grandchildren and a great grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws, and a granddaughter.

Per Don's wishes, cremation will take place with no public services. Memorials may be directed to UPAWS at upaws.org
