Ishpeming, MI -  Donald E. Manty, age 65, of 110 W. Barnum St., Ishpeming, passed away on Monday, November 21, 2022 at his home.

Don was born in Ishpeming on April 27, 1957, a son of Rose T. (Marra) and William A. Manty.  He grew up in Ishpeming and attended St. John's Grade School through the eighth grade.  He graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1975.

Following graduation, Don earned a certificate in welding from Northern Michigan University.  He worked as a carpenter in his brother Jim's construction company until his employment with the City Of Ishpeming as a heavy equipment operator.  While working for the City he also enrolled in Emergency Medicine Services courses and ultimately received an Associate Degree in Paramedics from Flint Professional Services.  When Bell Hospital purchased the ambulance service from the City, Don was hired as the EMS Manager of Operations, a position he held until retiring in 2016 due to health issues.

Don loved the drum corps activity and was a long-time member of the junior and senior corps of the Ishpeming Blue Notes Drum and Bugle Corps. Don also loved to cook and entertain his family and friends.  He was a strong supporter of the Ishpeming Hematites, a member of St. John's the Evangelist Catholic Church, Ishpeming Elks Lodge and a former member of the Ishpeming Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife Barbara (Johnson) Manty of Ishpeming; a son Steven (Jen) Manty of Duluth, MN; two daughters, Kris (Bryan) Niemi and Nikki Manty both of Ishpeming; two sisters - Rita (Bob) Thibeault of Ishpeming; Nancy (Ron) Parkkonen of Reno, NV; three brothers - Fran Manty of Atlanta, GA; Rich (Sandy Auston) Manty of Ishpeming; Jim (JoAnn) Manty of Ishpeming; brothers-in-law / sisters-in-law – Robert and Lori Johnson and Charles and Claudia Johnson all of Ishpeming and 6 grandchildren - Cassondra, Blake, Mileena, Cecelia, Steve and Raymond, 1 great grandchild Gabriel Donald Robert White; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 4 until 6 PM on Tuesday November 29, 2022, at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church where the Ishpeming Elks Lodge will hold a memorial service at 5:00PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 6:00PM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Ryan Ford officiating. The Mass will be livestreamed, which can be found at ishpemingcatholic.com/live Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his nephews - Adam, Andy and Nathan Manty and Jed Thibeault.  A dinner will follow in the K/D Hall at the church.
