Ishpeming- Donald G. Magnuson, age 89, longtime Ishpeming and Champion area resident, passed away on Tuesday January 23, 2019 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans.

Donald was born in Ishpeming on September 10, 1929 to the late George and Eva (St. Andre) Magnuson. He graduated from Republic High School, class of 1947. Following graduation Donald served the country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge, Donald returned home where he worked for the Carpenters Union for over 50 years.

Donald was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, he loved doing puzzles, throwing horse shoes in Wednesday night league with his son Donald, and he enjoyed going to the casino where he was known to always leave a winner.

Donald is survived by 2 children- Donald (Alice) Magnuson, Diane (Gary) Hamel, brother- Ray Magnuson, 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson, a special friend Hannah Wixtrom, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Beverly (Johnson) Magnuson, 2 sons- Greg and Peter Magnuson, and a granddaughter- Tyra Magnuson.

Donald's family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday January 26, 2019 from 10:00am until 11:30am at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30am with Rev. Fr. Ryan Ford as celebrant. Military Honors will be accorded by the Vietnam Veterans Chapter 380. A luncheon will follow in the K/D Hall.

Interment will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery in the spring.
