Ishpeming – Donald A. Krook, age 85 of 551 Duncan Ave., Ishpeming, passed away with his family by his side at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 18, 2007, at Bell Hospital in Ishpeming following a brief illness.
Donald was born September 17, 1922 in Negaunee to Adiel and Edith (Lundstrom) Krook. He graduated from Negaunee High School, class of 1940. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II, serving in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater for the 1st Fighter GP 44. Donald worked for the Cleveland Cliffs Mining Company for over 35 years, retiring in 1981 as an accountant.
Donald was a member of the former American Legion Ishpeming Post 58, now the Clifford W. Jackson Post #136, the Ishpeming V.F.W. Post 4573, the Ishpeming ELKS Lodge, and the Wawonowin Country Club where he enjoyed golfing. Donald also enjoyed bowling, being at camp, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Donald is survived by his wife Mary (Medlyn) Krook, whom he married November 22, 1947, 4 children: Peter (Janice) Krook of Ishpeming, Susan (Paul) Wolfson of Ishpeming, Steven (Junko) Krook of Negaunee and Kenneth Krook of Portland, OR; 12 grandchildren: Scott (Marcy) Wolfson, Wendy Hunt, William Krook, Sherri (Vincent) Pepin, David (Tracy) Krook, Jeffrey (Kim) Krook, Heath (Connie) Krook, Spencer Krook, Jason Krook, Jordan Krook, Marilyn Krook and Daniel Krook; and 15 great grandchildren. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Marilyn Krook, and a sister Pearl Savolainen.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 21, 2007, at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Ishpeming with Rev. Scott Lindenberg officiating. Interment will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday at the Wesley United Methodist Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m.
Pallbearers will be Donald's grandsons.
