Ishpeming, MI- Donald Joseph Jandron, age 91, lifelong Ishpeming resident passed away Thursday, September 23, 2021, at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans where he has resided for the past three plus years.
Donald was born at home in Ishpeming on January 11, 1930, to Joseph and Dorothy "Dora" (Racine) Jandron. He graduated from Ishpeming High School, Class of 1947. Don served his country in the U.S. Army with the Military Police in Germany during the Korean War.
Don worked for Inland Steel at the Morris Mine, Ishpeming Hospital for a few years, for Cleveland Cliffs at the Republic Mine, and retired from the Tilden Mine.
Don was a former member of the American Legion Post 136, Wawonowin Golf and Country Club, and the Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association. Don was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church where he served as the Chairman of the Trustee Committee for many years.
Don spent many summers improving their camp. He was a jack of all trades; he could always be counted on to lend a helping hand fixing things for people. After retirement him and Marilyn traveled to Europe, England, Ireland, and Scotland, and spent many winters in Battlement Mesa, CO. Don was recognized for his service in the Korean War by being on Honor Flight III in 2012 to Washington D.C. and was accompanied by his son Glen.
Don is survived by his wife whom he married on March 7, 1986 Marilyn, 3 children: Lynn (Joe DeCaire) Jandron, Glen (Toni) Jandron and Patti (Jerry) Davis, 4 step children: Allen Thomas, Kathy (Alan) Korpi, Karen Graham and Dale (Michele) Thomas, a brother Terry (Susan) Jandron, 6 grandchildren: Corey (Stephanie) Jandron, Adam Jandron, Shawnna (Ken) Heyder, Joseph Jandron, Emma Davis and Jane Davis, 6 step grandchildren: Angela (Eric) Kiviniemi, Nicole (Brad) Stille, Justin (Beth) Graham, Ryan (Kristen Berle) Korpi, Rachel Thomas and Michael (Kelly) Thomas, 2 great grandchildren, 8 step great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his first wife Florence, two sons: Jeffrey and Donald John, two brothers: Paul and LeRoy Jandron and stepson in law Richard Graham.
Don's family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 – 11:00 am on Monday September 27, 2021, at the Wesley United Methodist Church where funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, with Pastor Robert Freysinger officiating.
A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.
Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery where Military Honors will be accorded by the UP-Funeral Honors Team.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church or DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans.
Don's family would like to thank the staff at 1 West and 1 South at DJ Jacobetti Veterans Home for taking such good care of Don while he was a resident.
