Ishpeming- Donald R. Anderson, age 87 longtime Ishpeming resident passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility.
Donald was born October 28, 1928 in Ishpeming to the late William & Olive (Pascoe) Anderson. Don worked on the ore boats prior to his enlist in the U.S. Navy in 1945. After two years of service in the Navy, Don enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He spent 24 years in the U.S. Air Force being honorably discharged in 1970 as a Master Sergeant. Don worked in various Transportation Squadron's while in the Air Force.
Following his discharge from the Air Force Don continued to worked in transportation, driving truck for Tri-State Transport and later for Hercules-Ireco Explosive. Don was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was proud of his time spent in the armed services. He had his private pilots license, owning his own plane while living in Alaska. Don was a former member of the Ishpeming V.F.W. He loved watching baseball and was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and a Lions fan too.
Don is survived by 3 daughters: Colleen (Rene) Lavoie of Ridgecrest, CA, Corinne "Cory" (Ted) Pepin of Ishpeming and Cindy (Duane) Sirtola of Watson, MI, 7 grandchildren: Corinne Uyema, Mindy (fiance Chad) Pepin, Bradley (fiancee Angela) Pepin, Carley (Joseph) Leanes, Kimberly (Nathan) Puyear, Crystal (Craig) Zarbeck and Tiffany Sirtola, 10 great grandchildren: Bryce, Ashley, Chase, Alexis, Bradley Jr., Lucy, Colton, Nola, Kylee, & Benjamin, 1 great great grandson Brantley, a sister in law Carmen Anderson of Minnesota along with nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, wife Anna L. in 2002, a brother William Anderson and a sister Carol Kent.
Private funeral services for Donald will be held at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home with Rev. Steven Solberg officiating. Interment will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery.
Military honors will be accorded by the Vietnam Veteran of America Chapter 380.
