North Lake Loc.- Dona M. Nelson, age 86 life long North Lake resident passed away Friday June 8, 2018 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming while in the loving care of her family, staff at MCMCF and UP Home Health and Hospice.
Dona was born November 30, 1931 in Ishpeming to George and Sylvia (Laine) Carlson. She graduated from Ishpeming High School, class of 1949. She married the love of her life "Jack" in September of 1953 and they spent 56 years together on their journey through life. Dona worked for the H.W. Gossard Company but most of her life she was a caregiver and a housewife.
Dona was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church. Some of Dona's interest include reading, working on crossword puzzles and in her younger years she enjoyed dancing. Dona was an excellent cook and homemaker and enjoyed washing clothes on a daily basis. Dona enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren and was happy just being at home in North Lake.
Dona is survived by 3 children: Bradley (Roxanne) Nelson of Ishpeming, Faye (Brian) Joki of Hermantown, MN and Brian (Karen) Nelson of Gwinn, 3 sisters: Beverly Carlson of Ishpeming, Sharon (Jim) Barr of Escanaba and Georgia (Don) Parkkonen of Marquette, 4 grandchildren: Jackie (Eric) Salonen, Jason Perrault, Kirsten (Steve) Grandchamp, and Eric (Alyona Zhuravlyona) Nelson, 2 great grandchildren: Gabriel and Grayson Salonen, a honorary grandchild, Dane (Jenna) Nelson, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Dona was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack Nelson and her baby sister Marcia Buckland.
Dona's family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 from 11:00am-12:00 noon at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming where a memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon with Rev. Lauri O. Maki officiating.
A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.
