Obituary

Ishpeming, MI - Donald L. Ketchem, age 78 of 640 W. Division St. Ishpeming, passed away on Saturday, November 03, 2012 at his home while under the loving care of his family and UP Home Health and Hospice. Donald was born October 27, 1934 in Capac, Michigan to Benjamin and Evelyn (Boettcher) Ketchem. Don graduated from National Mine High School, class of 1954 and served his country in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957. Don worked for Cleveland Cliffs Mining Company for 30 years, retiring as a supervisor in 1995 from the Tilden Mine. Don was a member of the former Salisbury United Methodist Church where he was active with the mens club and currently a member of the Mitchell United Methodist Church in Negaunee. Don was also a member of the Ishpeming ELKS Lodge #447, the Dead River Campers Association and the Pioneer Kiwanis where he had dedicated his time to the ramp project, building 100 consecutive ramps. He enjoyed spending time at his camp on the Dead River with his family and was a regular at "Perky" Nault's social hour every Wednesday. Don enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren in all of their activities. Don is survived by his wife Lynn (Williams) Ketchem, whom he married on April 23, 1960, 2 children: Mark (Tami) Ketchem and Cindy (Steve) Pohlman, a brother Ron (Mary) Ketchem all of Ishpeming, grandchildren: Jessica (Chris) Warner, Jake Ketchem, Nathan Pohlman, Megan Pohlman, Samantha & Zach Dymond, 2 great grandchildren: Cydney Warner and Kayden Dymond, a brother and sister-in-law Jack and Carole Williams along with several nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Timothy. A memorial service will be held at 6:00pm on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at the Mitchell United Methodist Church in Negaunee with Rev. Douglas Mater to officiate. Don's family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday at Mitchell United Methodist Church from 3:00 pm until the time of service at 6:00 pm. Luncheon to follow in the Church Hall. Memorial considerations may be directed to Mitchell United Methodist Church in memory of Don.
