Republic- Diana L. Mattila, age 70, lifelong Republic resident, passed away on Friday April 28, 2023 at the Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee, while in the loving care of her family, and nursing home staff.

Diana was born in Marquette on February 6, 1953, daughter of the late Arvo and Arlene (Laakso) Maki. She grew up in Chatham and graduated from Eben High School with the class of 1971. Diana went on to raise her family with her husband of 52 years Paul Mattila.

Diana was a member of the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church. She loved swimming at all the local beaches with her children, and horseback riding in her younger years. Diana loved to cook and knew all her recipes by heart. She had an amazing memory, never forgetting anyone's birthday. Most of all Diana was proud of being a mom and a grandma.

Diana is survived by her husband- Paul Mattila, two children- Amanda (Michael) Sirtola, Vincent (Nikki) Mattila, one granddaughter- Emma Mattila, her beloved cat- Sophie along with a host of brother's and sister's in faith. She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister- Debbie Maki.

Diana's family will greet relatives and friends at the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church in Negaunee on Friday May 5, 2023 from 11:00am until 1:00pm. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm with Don Johnson to officiate. A potluck luncheon will follow in the church hall. Interment will take place in the Republic Cemetery.
