Obituary
Ishpeming- Desiree Kay (Allen) Schaffer, age 50, of 111 Bluff St, Apt 107, Ishpeming, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2007 at her home after a long battle with kidney disease.
Desiree was born December 15, 1956 in Sault Ste. Marie to Russell and Lois (Strom) Allen. Desiree has lived in Greensburg, LA., Gloster and Natches MS., New Orleans LA., Sault Ste Marie MI., before moving to North Lake location in Ishpeming.
When Desiree was in the forth grade she moved to Negaunee, graduating with the class of 1975. Desiree married Steven Matthew Schaffer on July 5th, 1975 and divorced in January of 1985. In between having three beautiful children. She worked at Johnny's Restaurant, Bell Pharmacy and in the kitchen of Bell Memorial Hospital, as a nurse's aid at the Mather Nursing Home, then as a housekeeper at the Holiday Inn of Marquette until her illness.
Desiree leaves behind her parents, Russell and Lois (Strom) Allen Sr., a brother Carl (Colleen) Allen of Negaunee, a sister, Mary Holmes of Ishpeming, three children, Steven Allen Schaffer of North Lake, Heather (Matthew) Larson of Midway Location, Negaunee, Christopher (Leslie) Schaffer of Ishpeming, her grandchildren she loved so dearly, Tyler Matthew Larson of Midways location Negaunee, Ciara Michelle-Kay Schaffer of Ishpeming, James and Desiree Roark of Ishpeming. Also four nephews, Derrick Allen and Jason Allen of Negaunee, Nickolas Holmes, Travis Allen of Ishpeming. Three nieces, Amber Holmes, Courtney Allen of Ishpeming and Michelle Allen of Negaunee, a sister-in-law, Pam Allen of North Lake, several aunts, uncles and cousins. Also very special friends, the Denofre family. Desiree was preceded in death by three grandfathers, Carl Strom, Olaf Hallgren, Edgar Aeeln, two grandmothers, Mary (Knight)(Strom) Hallgren, Wilma J. Allen, a brother Russell Allen Jr. she loved so very much.
Funeral services will be held 5:30p.m. Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming with Fr. James Challancin officiating. Inurnment will take place in the Negaunee Cemetery.
Friends may call the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home on Wednesday from 3:30p.m. until the time of service at 5:30p.m.
