Republic- Dennis C. Shepherd, age 73 longtime Republic resident passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans where he been a resident for the past 1 ½ years.

Dennis was born February 21, 1939 in Iron Mountain to Harold & Cecelia (Ringuette) Shepherd. He served his country in the United States Navy being stationed on the USS Fiske during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Dennis was Honorably Discharged on June 19, 1962.

Dennis worked for Cleveland Cliffs Mining Company, the Republic-Michigamme School District as a bus driver, but was most happy working for him self scraping automobiles. He enjoyed snowmobiling and motorcycles.

Dennis is survived by 2 brothers: Donald Shepherd and Wayne (Peggy) Shepherd, 2 sisters: Virginia Mattson and Dianne Sirtola all of Republic, a half sister Evelyn Dzurick of Racine, WI, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, brother Vernon Shepherd and half brother Kenneth Shepherd.

A Private family service will take place at a later date.
