IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dennis P.
"Ozzie" Altobello
November 19, 1941 – June 22, 2018
Negaunee – Dennis P. "Ozzie" Altobello, age 76, of 205 E. Clark St., Negaunee passed away on Friday, June 22, 2018 while in the loving care of his family at UP Health System Marquette where he had been a patient for the past day.
Ozzie was born November 19, 1941 in Marquette to the late Paul and Pearl (Mountjoy) Altobello. He grew up in Ishpeming and was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1959. He initially worked at the Republic Mine and quickly realized that was not for him. Ozzie went on to manage the Wawonowin Country Club for 10 years. He returned to mining work at the Tilden Mine, but soon realized his passion was working more closely with people and providing customer service. He then owned and operated "Ozzie's Place" in downtown Ishpeming prior to working as a salesman for Twin City Motors for over twenty-five years serving his customers. His love for being around people continued in recent years with Ozzie being employed at O'Reilly Auto Parts Store in Negaunee, doing parts delivery to area businesses.
Ozzie was a member of the St. Paul Catholic Church in Negaunee and also attended St. John's Catholic Church in Ishpeming. He served on the Ishpeming Fire Department for 25 years. He was a lifetime member of the Ishpeming Elks Lodge. Ozzie enjoyed hunting, especially the fall deer season, time spent at camp and had been active in the local bowling leagues. He truly loved cooking, with a good old Italian meal of Spaghetti with his famous homemade sauce and garlic bread or serving as "Grill Master" wherever a grill was present.
Survivors include his wife of the past 27 years, Judith Altobello of Negaunee, 3 children – Tina (Jason) Spittle of Salem, WI, Paul (Robyn) Altobello of Ishpeming and Joe (Juanita) Altobello of Los Lunas, NM; step-children – Eileen (Brad) Taylor of Green Bay, WI, Kelly (Terry) Ball of Negaunee and Craig Williams of Negaunee; sister Christine White of Waterville, ME; 17 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter and 2 more expected great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 2 – 4pm on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ishpeming, where a Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 4:00pm on Thursday with the Rev. Fr. Larry Van Damme to officiate. Interment will take place at the Negaunee Cemetery. The Ishpeming Fire Dept. will stand guard and hold a prayer service prior to the Mass.
