Dean Arthur Mulgren, age 79, passed away on Friday, July 22 at his home in Clarkston. Dean was born on October 30, 1936 to Arthur and Kathryn (Mattson) Mulgren in Ishpeming.
He was a 1954 graduate of Ishpeming High School. He served in the US Army before attending General Motors Institute in Flint earning a degree in industrial engineering. He was employed as an engineer by GM until his retirement in 1988. Dean and his wife Mary Lou (Ralph-Putnam) were married on July 17, 1965. The two of them enjoyed their camp at Brocky Lake and sharing that time with their daughter Cheryl and their niece and nephews in the UP, Maribeth Bjorne, Dean, Gary and Randy Annala. Dean loved his dogs and enjoyed their companionship throughout his lifetime. He was able to entertain anyone with the amazing tricks he taught his dogs to perform. He also was an avid bird watcher and feeder.
Dean is survived by his wife, Mary Lou, sisters-in-law, Barbara Rivett and Margie Reinhardt, son-in-law, Steve Landry, very loyal friend, Paulette Cross along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, step daughter, Cheryl (Putnam) Landry, sister and brother-in-law, Arlene and Ramon Annala and sisters-in-law, Molly Homminga and Patricia Rabidoux.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 27 at 12:00 noon at Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming. Friends may visit from 11:00 until the time of service.
Honorary pallbearers will be his great nieces and nephews, Gary Midkiff, Amy Annala, Bryan and Mikel Annala, Greg, Jason and Jonathon Annala, Kate Hooper, Mary and Matthew Annala. Memorials may be made to the Michigan Humane Society. Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
