Ishpeming, MI- David Joseph Perry, age 69, of 718 N. First St. Ishpeming, MI, passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2022, at UP Health System Marquette.
David was born in Marquette, Michigan on April 17, 1953, a son of the Joann (DeRocher) and the late Glenn "Spike" Thomas Perry. He graduated from Ishpeming High School, Class of 1971 and received a degree in Criminal Justice from NMU.
David had worked for Cleveland Cliffs as a concentrate attendant at the Tilden Mine before a 26-year career as a Corrections Officer for the State of Michigan, mostly at the Baraga State Prison.
David was an avid fisherman, hunter, and a Green Bay Packer fan. He enjoyed music, and was a member of the Ishpeming Blue Notes, Negaunee City Band, Kilties Drum and Bugle Corps of Racine, the Northernaires, and the Mad Plaid Drum Corps. David coached his boys while they were in youth hockey and other sports. He loved his three cats. David was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he was very involved and was always ready to volunteer for anything.
David is survived by his wife Lori Ann (Kilbourn) Perry, whom he married on Aug 24, 2012, his mother Joann Perry, three sons; Mark (Dee) Perry, Brian (Christine) Perry, and Michael (Allie) Perry, a brother Scott "Skids" (Denise) Perry, two sisters; Debbie (Gary) Romero, and Sue Heilala, six grandchildren; Tia Dobson, Rylee (Lance) Crevier, Hunter, Madison, Ashley and Grayson Perry, along with several nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his father Glenn Perry, infant daughter Tina, brother-in-law Ted Heilala, grandparents; Leonard and Genevieve Perry and Joseph and Dorothy DeRocher.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 PM on Friday, October 7th at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ishpeming, with Fr. Ryan Ford officiating. There will be a visitation at the church from 12:00 noon until the time of service.
A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.
