Republic - David A. Miettinen, age 42 of 243 Hemlock St. Republic, went home to the Lord on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 surrounded by his family and Lake Superior Hospice.

David was born September 7, 1968 in Ishpeming the son of Ray and Ann (Kemppa) Miettinen. He was a graduate of the Republic High School. David attended the Jacobetti Skills Center at N.M.U. receiving a 2 year degree in electronics. He was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Republic.

David enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved to play video games with his son and friends. David was an avid Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Red Wings fan.

Survivors include his wife, Penny (Venn) Miettinen of Republic; son Brandon Miettinen of Gladstone; 3 step-daughtrers – Lizzy, Kelsey and Paige Kuppin all of Republic; his parents Ray and Ann Miettinen of Calumet; Mother-in-law and Father-in-law – Sharon and Robert Venn of Champion; 3 sisters – Karen (Joe) Felton of Racine, WI, Christine (Terry) Evans of Lake Linden, MI, Connie (Mark) Spanton of Republic; 3 brothers Keith (Juli) Miettinen of Milan, MI, Glenn (Pam) Miettinen of Sturgeon Bay, WI, Kevin Miettinen of Livonia, MI; Sister-in-law Judy Venn and Brother-in-law Bob Venn both of Republic; 14 nieces and 17 nephews; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; along with special friend Johnny Ferguson of Republic. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

A memorial service will be held 12:00 noon Friday, September 2, 2011 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Republic with Rev. Katherine Finegan officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends at Bethany Lutheran Church on Friday from 11:00am until the time of service at 12:00noon.
