Republic - David A. Mattson Jr., age 43, lifelong Republic resident passed away Friday, December 24, 2010 at the Bell Hospital in Ishpeming.


David was born December 31, 1966 in Ishpeming the son of the late Judith (Nyback) and David A. Mattson Sr. He was a graduate of the Republic-Michigamme High School, Class of 1985. Following graduation, he entered the United States Army, and had been stationed in Germany. He had been employed at the Grede Foundry in Kingsford as a crane operator for several years.


David enjoyed throwing horseshoes and played in local leagues, along with throwing dice with his friends. He was a member of the Republic Volunteer Fire Dept. David will be remembered as a soft spoken individual who liked to spend time with his family and friends. David was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Republic.


Survivors include two sisters – Donna Weimann of Republic and Kristi (Tony) Peltier of Brooklyn Park, MN, a nephew Dylan of Republic, several aunts, uncles, cousins and a special friend Jodi Mattila of Republic.


The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00am until 1:00pm on Friday January 7, 2010 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Republic. A memorial service will follow at 1:00pm with the Rev. Katherine Finegan to officiate. Inurnment will take place at the Republic Cemetery.


Honorary pallbearers will be his cousin Bud Lamond and members of the Republic Twp. Volunteer Fire Dept.
