Obituary
Nestoria - Dave K. Querfeld, age 63 of 24886 S. Nestoria Rd. Nestoria (Michigamme) passed away Sunday, February 06, 2011 at his home under the loving care of his family and Lake Superior Hospice.
Dave was born May 5, 1947 in Dearborn, MI the son of the late William G. and Arla (Kluge) Querfeld. He was a graduate of the Dearborn High School, Class of 1965. While in high school and college, Dave worked at Querfeld's Funeral Home in Dearborn and also worked summers at the Ford Foundry Plant in Dearborn. He first attended Michigan State University graduating with a degree in English in 1969. He went on to attend Wayne State University, receiving his degree in Mortuary Science in 1970. Dave then moved north and attended Michigan Tech University in the early 1970's working on a forestry degree.
Being a free spirit Dave decided to move out west, and worked the winters at Taos Ski Valley in New Mexico while mixing in some quality skiing. In the summers he and his partner build a solar Adobe subdivision. He married Marti Brezvai on January 25, 1983 in Lake Tahoe, CA. Dave and Marti lived and worked in wine country in Northern California for 5 years. Then took a year off after the birth of their son Matthew David and lived in Hawaii on the Big Island, windsurfing, golfing and enjoying Hawaii. Dave's love of the UP brought them back in 1987. Dave worked as a pharmaceutical rep. first for the Ginders Medical Supply and then for Medico Mart, while also running the Michigamme Market with his wife since 1992. He went on to be the Business Representative for Cellular One (AT&T) covering the entire Upper Peninsula for many years. Dave also dabbled in real estate working for State Farm- Northern Michigan Land Brokers, and for the last couple years worked in sales for the OPG group.
He enjoyed fishing, boating, skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing and life. He is fondly remembered by his family as a man with a great sense of humor, and one who could multi-task with the best of them. He was a fabulous, loving husband, father and friend. His favorite nephew refers to Dave as Uncle Good Times.
Survivors include his wife Marti Querfeld of Nestoria, a son Mat David (Jenna Nault) Querfeld of Nestoria along with nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother William A. (Biff) Querfeld and a sister Kathryn "Kay" Querfeld Wertz.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 2 until 5pm on Saturday February 12, 2011 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming, where a memorial service will follow 5:00pm with Pastor Carole Neitzel and Rev. Charles Tooman to officiate.
