Negaunee – Darryll J. "Grouse" Larson, age 62, of 538 Elm St., Negaunee passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at UP Health System Marquette following a brief illness.  Darryll was in the loving care of his family and the UP Home Health and Hospice at the time of his death.

Darryll was born March 31, 1954 in Marquette the son of the late Marvin G and Joan N. (Valenzio) Larson.  He grew up in Ishpeming and was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1972.  He furthered his education at United Electronics Institute in Grand Rapids, MI where he received his associate degree in electronics.  Darryll was a lifelong area resident other than his schooling and a brief time spent in California.  Darryll worked for the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co. for 34 years as an electronic repairman at both the Empire and Tilden Mines, retiring in 2009.

Darryll enjoyed many outdoor activities including hunting and fishing, skiing which included downhill, cross country and jumping, mountain biking and riding motorcycles, along with golfing, mainly at the Wawonowin Country Club where he was a member.  He loved music and played the guitar.  In the winter months he played in several Pool Leagues throughout the years for the following teams, Jacks I, Jacks II and Jacks III, JT's Shaft, Pasquali's and the Cascade.  He also participated in many pool tournaments in Michigan, Wisconsin and Las Vegas. Darryll was also a member of Jack's Tee-Pee Cribbage Team in the Ishpeming Cribbage League.

Darryll is survived by his 3 children – Jacquelyn (John) Laitala of Appleton, WI, Derek (Tracy) Larson of Philadelphia, PA and Jamie (Derrick) Magnuson of Ishpeming, 2 sisters – Roxanne (Bradley) Nelson and Christie (PJ) Pruett both of Ishpeming, grandchildren Lyn and Kasey Magnuson, aunts and uncles – Ken (Janice) Larson, "Babu" (Jack) Hodge, Nancy and Ethel Valenzio, along with several nieces and nephews, and his former wife Joni (Phil) Gleason.

The Larson family will greet relatives and friends from 3 until 6pm on Thursday January 12, 2017 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home to celebrated Darryll's life.  Followed by a reception at Pasquali's in Negaunee starting at 6:30pm on Thursday.
