Big Bay, MI - Daniel J. Nye, age 79, Big Bay area resident, passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2022, while a resident at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming.

Daniel was born in Muskegon, MI on August 2, 1943, a son of the late June A (Hiles) and John Daniel Nye. He was a graduate of Muskegon Heights High School and then attended St. Olaf College prior to Western Michigan University where he received his Bachelor of Science and Master's degree in Psychology.

Daniel worked as a Psychologist for the Gryphon Place Crisis Center in Kalamazoo; and locally for 15 years at Pathways in Marquette prior to his retirement. Daniel was a proud member of the National Muzzle Loading Association.  He will be remembered and was well known for his Bread Baking skills in Big Bay, sharing his loaves with the entire community. Daniel was artistic, making and teaching people how to make Black Ash Wood Baskets, which were items he would sell at Art on The Rocks. Another accomplishment Daniel achieved was skillfully making a Birch Bark Canoe.

Daniel is  survived by two daughters - Madeline (Jake) Dodge of Ishpeming; Amanda Stevenson of Salida, CO; two sons - Jesse (Amanda) Nye of Negaunee; Andrew (Stephanie) Nye of Fort Collins, CO; 8 Grandchildren - Daniel, Samuel, Thelonious, Gabrielle, Alex, Dominic, James, Charlotte; a sister, Joy Nye of Muskegon, and his former wife Sandra Nye of Negaunee. Daniel was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Donna.

A Celebration of Daniel's life will be held from 12:00pm - 2:00pm on Friday November 11, 2022, at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home, with a sharing of memories to be held at 1:30pm.
