Black River Location- Daniel W. "Chief" Jylha, age 75, of Black River passed away on Monday, March 8, 2021 at his home while in the loving care of his family and Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice.
Daniel was born in Ishpeming, Michigan on July 21, 1945, a son of the late Urho William and Hilja Elizabeth (Lakanen) Jylha.
Daniel graduated from Republic High School. "Chief" as he was known to many worked at UP Fabricating.
He was a member of Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church Negaunee, and the Black River Church.
Chief is survived his wife Cheryl (Yoki) Jylha, 2 sons: Wade Jylha of Hurley, WI and Jamie Jylha of Black River, a daughter Cheri Schulze of Ashland, WI, Grandchildren: Christopher Wilson, Bocephous Pauna, Cody (Emma) Jylha, Jake (Shayna) Zeller, John Symons, Piper Symons, Elaina Schulze and Gibson Schulze, great granddaughter, Isla Jylha, sisters in law Margie Issacs and Josie Jylha, several nieces and nephews and host of brothers and sisters in faith.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Arnold, Richard and James Jylha, sisters Joyce Pekuri and Bernice Lakanen, and a grandson Zachery Jylha.
A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00pm on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church, Co. Rd. 492 Negaunee, MI with Dan Hintsala officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends one hour prior to the service.
