Obituary
Champion - Daniel Matthew Hupp, age 60, of 4820 Co Rd AAJ Champion, passed away Monday morning, May 25, 2009 at his home under the loving care of his family and Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice.
Dan was born May 8, 1949 to Layton and Beverly Hupp. He married Carolyn Wiljanen on May 20, 1978. Dan was a loving husband and a loving, gentle, teaching father to Sara and Keven.
Daniel was an honorary fireman for the Champion Twp. Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the horse pulling committee who would always take care of the gate. He was employed by the Soo Line Railroad, managed Derries Bar and Owned and Operated Dan's Pizza with his wife and daughter. Daniel was employed by the West Marquette County Sanitation Authority as a semi truck driver until he fell ill. He volunteered at the Sacred Heart Church in Champion to call bingo and also for the Champion volunteer fire departments bingo. Dan loved to play cribbage and enjoyed playing Tripoly with the family.
He is survived by his parents Layton and Beverly, his wife Carolyn Hupp, daughter Sara Hupp, sons: Keven (Cathy) Plankey, Bradley (Paula) Hupp, John (Cathy) Pedrin, brother: Robert (Madge) Hupp, sisters: Julie (Dennis) Rivord, Debbie Hupp, Natalie (Mark) Hamel, Jeannie (Jim) Carlisle, a special cousin James Paul (Sharon) LaCosse, a special aunt Jan Hupp, brothers-in-law: Arthur (Ruth) Wiljanen, Dale (Janet) Wiljanen, David (Debbie) Wiljanen, sisters-in-law Kathy Kinsey, Nancy Ryan, Mary (Jim) Mitchell, 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 15 nieces and 5 nephews. He was preceded in death by a son Keith Plankey and his parents-in-law Arthur and Martha Wiljanen.
A Celebration of Dan's life will be held at 11:00AM at the Champion Twp. Fire Hall on Wednesday May 27, 2009. A luncheon will be held following the services at the fire hall.
The family would like to thank all the people he came in contact with at Bell Hospital for the excellent care he received each time he was hospitalized and in the ER. They would also like to thank all the Doctors involved in Daniel's care: Dr. Reidell, Dr. Coolie, Dr. Hammerman, Dr. Snyder, Bill Thomas, and Dr. Scholnik, along with the caring staff and nurses at the UP Hematology-Oncology at the Peninsula Medical Center.
