Republic- Dan John Mitchell, 73 of Republic, Michigan passed away peacefully on Friday, September 23, 2016 at the UP Health System Marquette.

Dan was born May 2, 1943 in Ishpeming, Michigan to Marian Louise (Keast) and Paul Clyde Mitchell.

Dan was a passionate man, who enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, gardening and constant putzing.  Dan was eager to lend a helping hand to use his expertise, when problems needed to be solved.  He was actively involved with the Republic Township zoning enforcement committee ad previously served the township planning commission council as well as his involvement with the Republic United Methodist Church.  Among many of his accomplishments was being National Coordinator of the Angel Network, small business person of the year for his work with the Investor Network for Venture Capitalists.  His love for teaching was a very important part of his life.  He was a professor at Nicolet College, Central Wyoming College, University of Saskatchewan, University of British Columbia, and Southern Connecticut University while working as an independent consultant in the graphics arts industry.  He will be forever in our hearts and greatly missed.

Dan is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Kaye Elizabeth (Wilson) Mitchell, his children: Michael Paul (Kathy) Mitchell of Dayton, ME, Shanna Lynn (Eric) Bosshardt of Chugiak, AK, and Regan Leigh Mitchell of Marquette.  Very important in Dan's life were his grandchildren: Spencer, Hunter, Ryder, Mayia, Cooper, Karsyn and Tayber.  Dan was always seen with his best companions, Kenya, his golden retriever and his little bit of trouble Willow (Shih Tzu).  Dan was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Louise Mitchell, and brothers Bruce and David Mitchell.

A memorial service celebrating Dan's life will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming, Michigan with Pastor Teri Branstrom officiating.  Dan's family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home from 2:00pm until the time of service.

A luncheon will follow the service at the family home, 391 Pine Street Republic, Michigan.
