Ishpeming Twp, MI- Dale Robert LaFave, age 68, an Ishpeming Township resident, passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at his home.
Dale was born in Negaunee, MI on January 23, 1953, the youngest son of Leona Vida (Krouth) Rochon and Robert Leonard LaFave. He graduated from Negaunee High School and worked at the Presque Isle Power Plant in Marquette, MI as a Senior Plant Operator for over 25 years until his retirement.
Dale was known by many as "White Tail Dale." He was a big game enthusiast and an ardent outdoorsman. He honed his archery and rifle shooting skills and had infinite patience hunting for the trophy worthy buck. He succeeded with a record setting buck on November 15, 1990, which was recorded in Boone and Crockett. That moment punctuated his many hunting experiences as a source of pride and accomplishment. His most cherished prizes were meticulously preserved and mounted bringing eternal honor to the magnificence and majesty of wildlife.
Later in life, he found joy playing pool for the American Legion Post #114 with his close friend Bruce "Butch" Laakso, who has been unerringly present to our family during this time.
Dale is survived by two children, Kristen LaFave and Mark LaFave, two granddaughters Nicole Mager and Haley LaFave, three siblings Jeannie Bridegroom, Leona Connors, and Jack LaFave. He is survived by the mother of his children, Renee LaFave, and former wife Patti Lauer-Smith along with her children Amy Conwell and Craig Heikkila, several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Robert LaFave and a sister, Roberta Cardew.
Honoring Dale's wishes, cremation will take place with a small private viewing with immediate family members.
A celebration of Dale's life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday May 28, 2022 at Northland Chapel Gardens Cemetery for those of us that love him and wish to share our tales of remembrance.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting a donation to be made to the charity of your choice.
