Obituary
Ishpeming- Dale L. Hawkins, age 51 of 486 Ready St. Ishpeming, lost his battle with cancer, Thursday, January 14 2010 at his home under the loving care of his family, Pam and Kathy, with Shirley Strieter, his long time friend and Lake Superior Hospice.
Dale was born November 4, 1958 in Chicago, IL to George L & Judith L. (Lyyski) Hawkins. He graduated from Shurz High School in Chicago, IL but attended Republic-Michigamme High School for his education until the year he graduated. He later graduated from NMU with a bachelor's degree in Sociology and a degree in Criminal Justice that he utilized at Teaching Homes of Upper Michigan, as a certified family specialist for 10 years.
Dale enjoyed hunting, boating, fishing and working on cars. His life was spent, always motivated by love for his son Mark. His drive to make a difference in all children's lives benefited his nephew Ryan as he grew up along side Mark sharing all Dale's hobbies as well as work. Whatever opportunity Dale had with any of his nieces or nephews lives, was sprinkled with mischief and received with love.
Dale is survived by his son Mark Hawkins of Mattoon, IL, a brother John (Melinda) Hawkins of Branch, MI, 3 sisters: Pam (Bob) Paulson of Spring Creek, NV, Kathy (Clint) Monett of Spring Creek, NV and Sharon (Scott) Ihlendfelt of Kingsland, GA, along with several nieces and nephews, as well as several great nieces and nephews. Dale was preceded in death by his father George Hawkins and mother Judith Hackeman.
A memorial service will be held 4:00pm Monday January 18, 2010 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming with Clint Monett to officiate. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Monday from 3:00pm until the time of service. Family and friends are invited to Dale's home at 486 Ready St, following the service for a time of sharing and a luncheon.
Dale's final resting place will be at the Republic Cemetery, buried next to his mother, Judy Hackeman.
