Republic- Curtis D. Kulju, age 65, longtime Republic and Humboldt area resident, passed away on Tuesday August 23, 2022 at his home while in the loving care of his family, and UP Home Health and Hospice.

Curt was born in Ishpeming on January 5, 1957, son of the late Herman and Irene (Long) Kulju. He attended Republic Michigamme Schools before starting his career in logging. He worked for many local logging companies including starting his own which he operated for several years, and most recently with Holli Forest Products. Curt loved working in the woods, hunting, animals, making hay, raising cows, and spending any moment he could with his grandson. He was a great mechanic and loved anything with a motor. Curt could always be found tinkering at Shits Creek Garage where he spent many hours working on different things.

Curt is survived by his wife Sherry (Sirtola) Kulju, daughter- Michelle Kulju, siblings- Debbie (Bob) Bengtson, Jeff Kulju, sisters and brothers-in-law- Lori (Tim) Levi, Jeff Sirtola, Mike (Amanda) Sirtola, two grandchildren- Zachary Sirtola, Lydia Dick, along with several special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two children- Jason Sirtola, Melissa Kulju, and two sisters- Sharon (Bob) Wickingson, and Delores (Al) Feifarek.

Curt's family will greet relatives and friends from 1:00pm until 2:00pm on Wednesday August 31, 2022 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Republic. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm with Rev. Alex Ross officiating. A potluck luncheon will follow in the church hall.
