Obituary

National Mine – Corrine A. Champion, age 74, of 3465 Co. Rd. 476, Ishpeming passed away at 1:39am on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at the Bell Hospital in Ishpeming.


Corrine was born January 16, 1937 in Ishpeming the daughter of the late William and Sigrid (Niskinen) Hill. She was a graduate of the Negaunee High School, Class of 1956. Corrine married Samuel Champion on June 16, 1956 in National Mine and together they raised four children. She had worked as a Nurses Aid at the Bell Hospital in Ishpeming for 20 years retiring in 1997.

Corrine will be remembered as a hard worker who cared for so many and would have done anything to help anybody. She also loved the Lord with all her heart and was certainly looking forward to meeting him. She attended the Good News Assembly of God in Ishpeming. Those close to her recall her as one who took care of her family, always being the last one to sit down to a good home cooked meal. Corrine will also be remembered for her knitting and sewing of gloves, mittens and hats for her family. Corrine enjoyed her many canine pals throughout her life, most recently "Skippy".


Survivors include her husband Samuel Champion of National Mine, 4 children – Alan (Susan) Champion of National Mine, David (Lois) Champion of Ishpeming, Caroline (Roger) Cole of Morley, MI and William (Jody) Champion of Green Creek Loc., a sister Susan (Roger) LaForest of Rochester Hills, MI, 8 grandchildren – Matthew Champion, Samuel Champion, Katlyn Keto, Jason (Jennifer) Collins, Brianna Cole, Elaina Cole, Thomas Champion and Chad Champion, 4 great grandchildren – Landen, Aiden, Ethan and Addelyn Collins along with several nieces and nephews.


The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00am until 1:00pm on Saturday January 7, 2012 at the Good News Assembly of God in Ishpeming. Funeral services will follow at 1:00pm on Saturday at the Good News Assembly of God with the Rev. John Roy to officiate. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the services on Saturday in the church fellowship hall.


Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons – Matthew Champion, Samuel Champion, Jason Collins and Thomas Champion.
