Negaunee- Claudean P. Carr, age 77, formerly of 204 Cliff St. Negaunee, passed away Monday evening December 21, 2015 at the Eastwood Nursing Center while in the loving care of her family and the U.P. Home Health and Hospice following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Claudean was born on July 15, 1938 to Marjorie (Dorman) and Clinton Schell in Lower Michigan's Sanilac County.
Her early years were spent on the family farm and attending a rural one room school house. When she was a young teen, her family moved into nearby Sandusky, MI where her mother owned and operated a small restaurant. Claudean worked as a waitress at the family restaurant and graduated from Sandusky High School in 1957.
Shortly after graduating from High School, Claudean married Ronald J. Collins who was stationed as a State Police Officer at the Sandusky Post.
Following the wedding, Claudean moved to the Upper Peninsula to start her young life as a housewife and mother. The first nine years of marriage were spent having children and moving around to where Ronald's education and teaching career took her (Negaunee, Marquette, Michigamme, and Goodman, WI).
By 1968, Claudean had given birth to her fifth and final child and continued raising her children in the Negaunee area.
Claudean was remarried in 1985 to James Carr and enjoyed almost 20 years with him at their little farm house on Southwood Dr. in West Ishpeming.
Claudean worked for the Bell Memorial Hospital for twenty plus years, was a life member of the VFW post 3165 ladies Auxiliary, local Red Hats, and was a member of Mitchell United Methodist Church of Negaunee.
Claudean enjoyed flowers, gardening, traveling, cooking, canning, watching the Detroit Lions, and playing women's softball in her younger years.
Claudean is survived by her five children, Beth (Randy Petersen) Collins of Coleman, WI, Julie (Tom Royea Sr.) Collins of Greenwood Location, Ronald Collins Jr. of Janesville, WI, Jill (Dean Maki) Howard of Negaunee, and Scott Collins of Negaunee, five grandchildren, Bryan Kulju of Greenwood location, Kayla and Lisa Lafreniere of Wisconsin, Trevor Howard of Negaunee, and Sara Holbrook of Wisconsin, one sister, Linda (Duane) Pallas of Sandusky, MI, a sister-in-law Joyce Schell of Sandusky, MI along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Claudean was preceded in death by her second husband Jim, her granddaughter Carly Lehto, her parents, her sister Beverly Carter, her brother Floyd Schell, her infant brothers Elmond and David Schell, and nephews Ronnie Mikko and Wayne Schell.
In keeping with Claudean's wishes, there will be no public or private services. A celebration of life in Claudean's honor will be announced at a later date.
