Obituary

Ely Twp, MI- Claude E. "Dee" Kautz, Jr., age 82 Ely Township resident passed away Thursday, January 12, 2023, at UP Health System Bell, with his family at his side.

Claude was born in Annapolis, Maryland on May 19, 1940, a son of the late Claude E. and Anna E. (Horleman) Kautz, Sr.

He served in the U.S. Marines as a GYSGT, he retired as an Administrative Chief after 30 years of service. Claude then worked 20 years for the United State Postal Service in custodial maintenance.

Claude was a was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and the Ishpeming ELKS Lodge #447. Claude loved to travel with his wife Marlene, some of their favorite places being Hawaii, the Caribbean, and Europe. Claude was always willing to help others, and he enjoyed woodworking and wine making. His family was his pride and joy.

Claude is survived by his wife Marlene M. (Keto) Kautz, whom he married on May 27, 1961, three children: Claude "Snitz" (Cathy Pennala) Kautz III, Karen (Pud) Perreault, Kathie (Kevin) Hermanson, daughter in law; Trish Kautz, sister; Claudette (Bruce) Craig, sister in law; Barbara Kautz, 13 Grandchildren; Casey Dugan, Gabrielle Kautz, Anna-Liisa Hill, Brandi (Andy) Panzer, Nichole Kautz, Amber Kautz, Scott Kautz Jr., Hunter Kautz, Dani (Mike) Hollenbeck, Joshua (Cheyenne) Perreault, Ryan (Kim) Hermanson, Kyle (Megan) Hermanson, Taylor (B.J.) Weir, 8 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Scott Kautz, great grandson Blake, sister Pam Kautz and a brother Earl Kautz.

A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at Faith Lutheran Church, Co. Rd 581 in Ishpeming with Rev. Steve Weston officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 am until the time of service.

Military Honors will be accorded by the U.S. Marine Corp.

A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.
