Ishpeming- Clarice "Kay" (DeVold) Lyons, age 69, went peacefully into the arms of her Lord July 22,
2007, at Marquette General Hospital surrounded by her loving family after a sudden and brave
battle with cancer.
Kay was born September 24, 1937, the youngest daughter of Ione (Wiik) and
Albert DeVold of Ishpeming. She graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1955, and soon
after became an airline hostess for American Airlines in Dallas, Texas. She married the love of
her life, Charles Lyons, Sr., on August 25, 1956, in Ishpeming. For several years she worked for
Globe Printing in Ishpeming as a bindery person. She was a tireless volunteer at Trinity Lutheran
Church where she served as a mailing worker, greeter, Synod volunteer, and member of the
"Good-bye Girls" who serve lunch and clean up for every funeral at the church. Kay loved
baking, cooking, New York Times crossword puzzles, crocheting, knitting, reading, and most of
all doing for her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend who
will be dearly missed by all.
Kay is survived by her beloved husband, Charles "Chuck" Lyons, Sr.; five children Charles
"Skip" (Marci) Lyons, Jr., Virginia "Ginny" (Tony) Tippett, Cynthia "Cindy" (Douglas) Alspach,
Karen (Mark) Poirier, all of Ishpeming; and Patrick "Duba" (Traci Grambsch) Lyons of Oshkosh,
Wisconsin; two sisters Helen Kubas of Paddock Lake, Wisconsin, and Nancy (Bob) Lahde of
Ishpeming; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and a 12th due in September; brother-in-law
James "Jimmy" Lyons of Montague; sisters-in-law Virginia Holmgren and Patricia "Poppy"
LaFreniere of Ishpeming; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and many, many special
friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Dorothy Burke, Marion
Grigg, and Marjorie Grigg.
A Memorial service will be held 12:00noon Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ishpeming with Rev. Warren Geier officiating.
Friends may call the Trinity Lutheran Church on Wednesday from 10:00a.m.until the time of service at 12:00noon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Kay's name may be directed to the Good Samaritan Fund at
Trinity Lutheran Church, 414 East Ridge Street, Ishpeming, Michigan 49849.
