ISHPEMING, MI – With heavy hearts we honor the life and passing of Chrissy A. Ogea, age 74, of Ishpeming, who passed away at her home on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.

Chrissy was born in Marquette on January 7, 1952, to Peter G. Leanes and Katherine G. (Hawkins) Leanes. She was a graduate of Negaunee High School, Class of 1970. After high school she was a homemaker until she attended Northern Michigan University, graduating in 1982 as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Nursing was not just her profession – it was her calling. Outside of her love of nursing, her love shone just as brightly, and she was a grandma, mom, aunt, and friend whose kindness never wavered.

Chrissy began her LPN nursing career at the former Acocks Medical Facility (now Marquette County Medical Care Facility) until the year 2000. She retired from nursing with Family Care Doctors in 2019. After retiring Chrissy worked part-time at Midtown Bakery in Negaunee until 2025. Chrissy loved to fill her time with baking and gardening. She would often sell out of her homemade baked goods at the Negaunee Farmers Market. Chrissy spent numerous hours in the summer tending to her gardens at the Community Garden in Ishpeming, sharing her love of gardening, stories, and laughter with fellow gardening friends. She was an avid attendee at her grandchildren’s activities, cheering on from the bench and sidelines.

Chrissy is survived by her children, Kristy (Eric) Hemmila and Jesse (Megan) Ogea, and their father, her former spouse, Charles Ogea; her brother, George Leanes; and sister, Mary (Gerald) Furr; her beloved grandchildren, Mason (Keana Fahrni) Hemmila, Maia Hemmila, Evelyn (Zach Tyler) Ogea, Kenzie Ogea, Reggie Ogea, Charlie Ogea; and her future great-grandchild, baby Tyler; her cherished lifelong friends, Patty (Larry) Annala and their children Larry Jr. and Tammy; along with her brother-in-law, Edward Ogea and his family.

Chrissy was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Katherine; her brother, Dennis Leanes; her parents-in-law, Benjamin and Marjorie Ogea; and a sister-in-law, Susan Ogea.

A memorial service will be held at Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming on Friday, March 27, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. Chrissy’s family will greet friends and relatives from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. Paster Chad Mager will officiate.
