Ishpeming – Charlotte M. Lehtinen, age 91, longtime Ely Twp. resident passed away on Friday, November 30, 2012 at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming where she had resided for the past 6 years.
Charlotte was born July 14, 1921 in Diorite Location the daughter of the late Charles and Clara (Carlson) Gustafson. She was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1940 and a lifelong area resident, growing up and raising her family in Diorite. Charlotte will be remembered as an excellent cook and baker, especially for her cinnamon rolls and bread. She had worked as a cook at the Diorite School for many years and also at the Madelyne's (Lawry's) Pasty Shop. In her later years, she even cooked for the Senior Meals Program in Ely Twp. Charlotte enjoyed doing craftwork, knitting, crocheting and sewing, along with tending to her vegetable and flower gardens.
She is survived by a son George Lehtinen of Soldotna, AK, a daughter-in-law Gloria Lehtinen of Diorite, a sister Helen Swanson of Marquette, 3 grandchildren – Linda (Troy) Zimmerman, Pako (Jeff) Whannell and Wayne (Sandra) Lehtinen, 6 great grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren – Kevin (Tracy) Stacy, Jeanette Grund, Greg Grund and Michelle Grund, along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Sr. in 1972, a son Arthur Jr. in June of 2012, and an infant son David, great grandson Takoda, and a sister Margaret Mullins.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00pm on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home with the Rev. Lauri O. Maki to officiate. The family will greet relatives and friends from 5 until 6pm on Wednesday at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home. Inurnment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery. A luncheon will be served at the Country Grill in Ishpeming following the services on Wednesday.
