Republic – Charley A. Holsworth, age 79 of 6844 Hardwood Rd., Republic Twp., passed away on Thursday July 31, 2008 at the DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette while under the care of the Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice.
Charley was born September 9, 1928 in Pontiac, MI the son of the late Charles and Cloy (Thompson) Holsworth. Charley spent his childhood in Pontiac and married Charlotte J. Morris in 1947. They moved to Ossineke, MI where they resided for 20 years later moving to Republic in 1974 where he had resided since. Charley worked in the Masonry business for over 50 years, locally he had owned and operated Mudmen Masonry for many years.
Charley served in the United States Merchant Marines serving during World War II and at age 16, he saw combat in the North Atlantic. He was a member of the Republic United Methodist Church and the Lions Club.
Survivors include 2 daughters – Renee` (Ron) Grochowski of Ishpeming and Dawn (Mick) Rondeau of Eben Junction; 5 sons – Karl (Debbie) Holsworth of Channing, Dan (Diane) Holsworth of Humboldt Loc., Tim Holsworth of Green Bay, WI and his fiancée Nellie Ruela of Linden, NJ, David (Wanda) Holsworth of Republic and Larry (Kathy) Holsworth of Sagola; a brother Jim (Ramona) Holsworth of Ossineke, MI; 29 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Charlotte on December 28, 2007, a brother Lyle Holsworth, a sister Bernice Garrett and an infant sister Grace Holsworth.
The family will greet relatives and friends at the Republic United Methodist Church from 10:30AM until 11:00AM on Monday August 4, 2008 where a Memorial Service will be celebrated at 11:00AM with Rev. James Fegan to officiate.
Honorary pallbearers will be his 5 son's and a grandson.
