Ishpeming, MI - Charles W. Waters, age 83, of 426 W. Empire St. Ishpeming, passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at UP Health System Bell.

Charles was born in Ishpeming on June 6, 1939, son of the late Carmen C. (Thomas) and Charles E. Waters. He grew up in Ishpeming and was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1958. Charlie served in the Michigan National Guard for 20+ years with the 107 ^th Engineer Battalion and was called to active duty during the Detroit Riots in the summer of 1967. Chuck worked for the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co., first on the roving crew and then as a pump repairman at the Empire Mine, from which he retired.

Charlie was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Ishpeming, the Lillian Larson American Legion Post #114 in Greenwood; the Good Sam RV Club of Michigan; served on the U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary; was active at the Ishpeming Senior Center, and was named Senior Citizen of the Year in Ishpeming as its top volunteer in 2012; was an Ombudsman for the Mather Nursing Center; was instrumental in Diabetic Education; an avid Cub Scout and Boy Scout member and leader; active with the Tomahawk Bowman Archery Club; volunteered with the Hunter Safety Program; loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing; served as bus driver / equipment driver and chaperon for the Blue Notes Drum and Bugle Corps Parents Club; and his ultimate love was camping in his 5th wheel all summer long; his last adventure was a fishing expedition this summer with his grandson-in-law Nate.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years - Elizabeth Ann (Argall) Waters of Ishpeming, whom he married on Aug 29, 1959; four daughters - Tammy (Raymond) Hoffman of Ishpeming; Cindy (Carl) Walin of Ishpeming; Renee' (Donald) Edens of Clearwater, FL; Melissa (Dennis) Andrews of Marquette; Son Timothy (Stacie) Waters of Knoxville, TN; along with 14 grandchildren; and 20 Great Grandchildren. Charlie was preceded by his parents, a daughter, Lynn Waters-Robinson and a brother Ralph Waters.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home from 4 until 6 PM on Monday, September 19, 2022.  A memorial service will follow at 6:00 PM with Dick Graybill to officiate. Military Honors will be accorded by the Army U.P. Funeral Honors Team. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
