Green Bay, WI - Charles E. Sanders, Jr., age 83 of DePere, WI was called home to heaven on December 16, 2019 while a patient at the Bellin Hospital in Green Bay.
Charles was born December 5, 1936 in Ishpeming, MI to Harriet (Rowe) and Charles E. Sanders Sr. He was a graduate of Ishpeming high school, class of 1954. He was employed by Johnson Chevrolet, Vielmetti Chevrolet and Fisher Chevrolet. He began employment with Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company in 1957 at the Eagle Mills Pellet Plant and worked at the Ishpeming research lab, Main Office Industrial Relations (Employment Company Benefits, Training, Public Relations), also at the central shops as a warehouse supervisor and safety engineer and at the Empire Mine in Mining Engineering; retiring in 1996 with 39 years of service. During an extended layoff period at Cleveland Cliffs he was employed by Thiokol Chemical Corporation in Huntsville, Alabama.
Active in community affairs, Charles achieved the Eagle Scout Rank and attended the National Boy Scout Jamboree in Santa Anna, CA in 1953. He was a singer with Ishpeming Choral Club and Allegro and participated in several musicals for PAAC. As a member of the Huntsville, Ishpeming/Negaunee Jaycees he served as President and State Vice President. He also served as President of the Ishpeming Chamber of Commerce and President of Ishpeming Noon Kiwanis Club. Charles was also a proud member of the Ishpeming Elk Lodge and served as President and Secretary for the Ishpeming Bowling League which he participated in for many years. He is also a former member of Wawonowin Country Club and Republic Rabbit Club.
Surviving is his wife Marilyn (Kerkela) Sanders, three daughters, Tammy Oatley, Austin, TX, Tania (Bill) Jones, Green Bay, WI, Tiffany Lindroos, Ishpeming, MI, grandchildren, Nicholas, Deserae, David, Tyler, Jordan, Dana and Brittney, sister Sharon Beale and brother Bruce (Sandra) of Ishpeming, and sister-in-law, Jane Danielson. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert, son Keith and daughter Kelli.
A celebration of life will be held at Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home on Friday December 27, 2019 with visitation from noon to 1:30 and service to follow with Rev. D. Michael Carriere to officiate. Interment will take place at the Republic Cemetery in the Spring.
